Speech Delivered by Karma Lhaki, Director of Fablab Bhutan at National STEM Olympaid 2019
Honorable Vice- Chancellor of Royal Universit of Bhutan, Director General of Ministry of Education, Distinguished guests and to all the participants. It is with great honor and privilege that Fablab Bhutan and the Fabulous team to work closely with The Royal Education Council, Ministry of Education and Solid works in this “NATIONAL STEM OLYMPIAD 2019”.
The very reason that I am here is to share the importance of participating in National STEM Olympiad, especially to the young passionate minds. National STEM Olympiad of Bhutan is initiated with the motive to inspire the youths and to bring more recognition of science and technology in Bhutan.
“WE CANNOT MAKE THE FUTURE FOR OUR BHUTANESE YOUTHS BUT WE CAN PREPARE THEM FOR THEIR FUTURE”.
Today, we write a new history for our nation. This is for the first time ever and which is at National level, Bhutan hosts National STEM Robotics competition.
To our understanding of this robotic competition, it has never been about robots. Your robots very well have various electrical and mechanical parts but this is a lesson in humanity, hard work and collaboration. This is the cross feet workout for the muscle upstairs, this will be an apple for the next Newton.
At the end of this program, we are very sure that you all have learned a lot. You should always remember that the result is just a raw result! The process that you have come through has always been more beautiful and valuable. The process that teaches you the values of teamwork and cooperation, values of having a mentor and enjoying what you do together.
I am very proud and would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the 22 trainers who worked very hard to train the participants of the 20 selected schools and make this happen.
All these lessons that you take from this program are very important in life, now that you know every aspect of this program. It is your responsibility that you share this beautiful journey of yours with your friends, family and community. So that everyone knows how important this kind of program is. So that in future people would create more platforms for the enthusiastic generations of people like you all.
Please remember, it is very important that you learn and enjoy but more than that, it is very important that you share and communicate with others! Even this program is a result of humble sharing and proper communication.
So please remember one important thing here. This is not about the robot; it is the machine that will build the people who will change the world!
Tashi Delek.
